SUMMER  18 Maths Courses

Bar Modelling

Audience: Teachers, Maths Subject Leaders, Teaching Assistants
Course Content: This half day course will explore how bar modelling fits into the mathematics curriculum and enables pupils to deepen their understanding of word problems. It will give the participants a clear progression through the different models and the knowledge and confidence so that they can use it effectively in their classrooms
When – Tuesday May 1st 1.15pm – 4.pm
Where – The Innovation Centre, Bradford BD1 5BD
Cost – £65 per delegate with a £10 discount for more than one teacher from the same school.

Greater Depth in Mathematics – supporting the quick learners in mathematics

Audience: Teachers, Maths Subject Leaders and HLTAs
Course Content: This course will consider ways to differentiate the 2014 curriculum for quick learners in order to achieve ‘greater depth’ whilst providing delegates with a range of strategies which can be used instantly.
When – Monday 21st May 1.15pm – 4.pm

Beyond word problems  –  problem solving in Key Stage 1

Audience: Year 1 – Year 3 teachers, Maths Subject Leaders and HLTA’s

Course Content: This course will explore problem solving for all pupils and will provide delegates with practical resources and activities that can be used in the classroom immediately!
When – Tuesday 26th June 1.15pm – 4pm

Cross curricular Maths

Audience: Teachers from KS2, Maths Subject Leaders and HLTA’s

Course Content: This course will explore different opportunities for cross curricular maths and will demonstrate how a real life situation (2018 FIFA World Cup) can be used to enhance cross curricular maths in the classroom. It will include resources that can be instantly used.
When – Tuesday 12th June 1.15pm – 4.pm
Where – The Innovation Centre, Bradford BD1 5BD

Mathematics Subject Leader Networks – These half days will support subject leaders in keeping up-to-date with recent mathematical developments, receiving CPD and sharing experiences. Each meeting will include a gap task which will be followed up in the next meeting.

Main topic – Effective assessment! – please bring books/children’s work as there will be time to share.

Time – 1.oo pm – 3.45 pm
Where Foxhill Primary School, Brighouse and Denholme Rd, Queensbury, Bradford BD13 1LN

Main topics – What could cross curricular maths look like? This keeps cropping up in Ofsted reports.
This Network will also have a session which will give opportunities to share websites and resources. I shall run this session like a Teachmeet – more details to follow later if you haven’t seen one of these.

Each network will also include any updates or current issues.
